Final Fantasy Cosplay

Being the main protaganist of Final Fantasy 8, Squall is a popular choice for many cosplayers as his character is naturally cool and his costume is not overly elaborate. Because the character was designed with feminine features (read below), the character is suitable for both female and male cosplayers. In the game, Squall is a 17-year old student at Balamb Garden; he is normally a quiet character and a bit of a lone wolf. After he falls in love with Rinoa, he becomes a much more caring person. Long time Final Fantasy designer Tetsuya Nomura said that Squall was inspired by actor River Phoenix. Squall stands roughly 5 feet 9 inches (177 cm) tall, and was initially given longer hair and a more feminine appearance. Due to game director Yoshinori Kitase’s objections, Nomura modified the design to be more masculine. Nomura added the scar across Squall’s brow and bridge of his nose in a spur of the moment manner, intended to make the character more recognizable. Squall’s costume should be relatively easy to assemble; he wears a black leather jacket with a white shirt underneath and black pants or jeans. His jacket has a distinctive white fur lining on it, and should be easy enough to attach to a regular leather jacket if need be. Squall’s costume has quite a lot of belts. There’s a black one worn regularly across the waist, then two more brown belts slung diagonally across the waist section to form an ‘X’, then there are three smaller black belts strapped around his right upper leg. Squall doesn’t have too much in terms of accessories; he also wears a silver pendant, black gloves and boots. Squall uses a Gunblade in battle, it is basically a revolver with a sword’s flat blade attached to it (the revolver acting as the hilt for the sword). Making the gunblade yourself would be difficult and will require you to work with possibly wood, plastics, fiberglass and/or craft foam.
